It's February and officially darn cold for many areas of the United States. Ocean water temps are starting to bottom out for most areas around the country as winter weather takes its full affect. It's probably a fair assessment to say that there aren't too many surfers who prefer the cold water, but cold is subjective and we thought we'd do a comparison to see how water temps are stacking up this February around the country.

East Coast

Northeast - 41°F
Mid Atlantic - 41°F - 47 °F (around Cape Hatteras)
Southeast - 50°F (Southern NC) - 55°F (Georgia)
East Florida - 60°F (North Florida) - 70°F (South Florida)

Gulf of Mexico

West Florida - 60°F (Panhandle) - 62°F (West Coast)
Texas - 57°F (Galveston) - 67°F (South Padre)

West Coast

Northwest - 46°F (Northern Maine) - 52°F (Southern Oregon)
Northern California - 51°F
Central California - 52°F - 55°F
Southern California - 56°F - 58°F
Hawaii - 77°F

It's good to keep in mind when you start complaining about the cold water, there's always some surfer out there that has it much worse. Well, except for those hearty surfers in the Northeast who are basically surfing in ice water. And, for you lucky souls in Hawaii, we know there are some chilly mornings, but its probably fair to say there's no need to complain.
