We've added a new XL timeline scale for when the surf forecast goes into big wave territory. The standard Surf Captain timeline scale has a wave height scale from knee high to over double overhead. This handles most situations for most areas around the United States, however we realized after the last mega North Pacific swell that we needed a timeline scale to better handle these giant swell events.
The new scale goes to over 4 times overhead. Here is an example from Seaside, Oregon, where the surf moves into the big wave territory, and the timeline scale flips over to the XL scale.
This is what the forecast timeline looked like on the old scale:
In the comparison between the old and new scales, it is much easier to distinguish wave heights that go bigger than the double overhead range.
